European Day of Languages – Year 3 German Day

Chestnut and Rowan enjoyed a day of learning all things German – greeting each other, drawing flags, listening to German classical music from Bach and Beethoven to Strauss and Mendelssohn, learning how to count to twenty – eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünf,… achtzehn, neunzehn, zwanzig – and carrying out simple maths in German.  They even played German bingo too!

Year 3 Boxing

Year 3 have been lucky enough to spend Wednesday afternoons with Boxing coaches, training them in the art of Boxing.  They have had great fun playing fitness games and learning the Boxing stances and some Boxing moves – jab, power, hook, uppercut.  They have even had the pleasure of training with current Youth Olympic Games gold medallist and Team GB hopeful, Karol Itauma (in red in the photos).

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to all our new children and families to Rowan and Chestnut from the Year 3 team.

It was really lovely to see all the children looking so smiley, smart and enthusiastic on our first days back.

For your information our PE day is Tuesday.  Please can you ensure your children have a PE kit in school that is clearly labelled and any jewellery (e.g. earrings, etc.) is removed.

Many thanks,

The Year 3 Team

Outdoor Adventurous Activities

In PE this term we have been having lots of fun developing many skills in Outdoor Adventurous Activities!

We have been developing our team work skills through various different challenges. We have used our bodies to make different letters of the alphabet and we also had to face the challenge of using only 5 stepping stones to get a team of Vikings across a giant pool of water!

Later this week we will be using maps, along with our problem solving skills, to help us complete various challenges.

Year 3

Fractions

In Maths we have been working really hard to learn all about fractions!

We have learnt how to find fractions of shapes and numbers, as well as learning how to place fractions on a number line! Our Learning Journey wall shows that we have been using the Bar Model and Whole Part Model to help in developing our understanding.

This week we begin our assessments across our core subjects. We are sure nobody will need it but… Good luck!

Year 3

A polite reminder that PE day is Thursday and we will be doing both indoor and outdoor PE this term. Please could all children have a PE kit in school, which is named.

Thank you

Desiging Celtic Crosses.

Celtic Crosses were used as sign to Christians of a place were they could worship. They were used because they couldn’t build churches quickly enough. Having studied different Celtic Crosses we identified and sketched the parts we liked best. We then used these to influence our own art work. Now we are going to use them to design our own Celtic Cross and then build it out of clay.

King Ethelbert needs your help!

King Ethelbert recruited the help of year 3 in solving his Anglo – Saxon framers problem.  He needs all fields to have a perimeter of 28M. The children used their maths knowledge to help solve his problem.
