Arts Week

Year 3 have been using wax resist to create images based on the themes of architecture and community.  We started by sketching houses.  We then experimented how wax is resistant to watered down ink and watercolour paint.  The children used both wax crayons and candle wax to explore different approaches.  We look forward to sharing the final results!

Muscles

Year 3 have been learning how muscles work.  Skeletal muscles work in pairs to move the body. When you bend your arm, the biceps muscle contracts while the triceps relaxes. The biceps pulls the bones together, bending the arm. The reverse happens when the arm straightens.

Bonjour!

The children are really enjoying learning French.  We have been learning to say hello and goodbye, in addition to saying what we are called in French.

Bonjour – good day, which we use during the day.

Bonsoir – good evening, which we use in the evening.

Bonne nuit – good night, which we use at night.

Salut – hi!

Comment tu t’appelles ? – What is your name?

Je m’appelle… – my name is …

Au revoir – goodbye

Networks

The children have been learning how we can link and share information using different devices.  We tracked how information travels around our school network by looking at the switchboard and the server.

Bibles

The children have been learning to use a Bible.  They were looking for our school values within different books of the Bible.  We found it quite difficult but we will persevere.

Flotsam

The children enjoyed reading looking at our new book ‘Flotsam’.

The children used their detective skills to infer who the belongings washed up on the beach might belong to.

The children inferred the following:

Tray 1 – a fisherman

Tray 2 – a teacher

Tray 3 – a pirate

Tray 4 – a scientist or an explorer

Tray 5 – a sunbather (child)

Week 1

We have had a great first week in year 3!

We have been reading the book ‘The Dot’.  The children explored the idea of perseverance and simply ‘having a go’.

We looked at the idea of starting ‘somewhere’ by making a mark (a dot) and seeing where it would take us.  Here are some of our pictures:

The children also produced some writing from a given starting point.

All of the children have been working collaboratively to produce a piece of artwork based on ‘The Dot’.  We can’t wait to see the finished result.

As a class, we created a ‘class charter’ and set out our expectations for the year ahead.  We also looked at our school value of ‘community’.  The children created jigsaw puzzle pieces to show that we are all unique but fit together perfectly.

The children explored how to provide constructive feedback and how to act upon it.  This is a skill that we hope we will continue to develop this year.
