Term 3

Thank you to everyone who has successfully managed to log onto Reading Plus at home.

A letter was sent home last week with details of how to log on, along with your child’s username and password. Please let me know if you are having any problems. This is a great resource, which will really help your child’s fluency and comprehension.

It is expected that your child will access Reading Plus at least twice weekly.

Welldone to Maple class who won the battle of the bands on Times Table Rockstars.

This week Roxy P was awarded the title of the quickest responder!!  Who will be next to achieve recognition of their handwork?

Maple Awards

Well-done to Frankie S for being awarded Star of the Week and to Tommy A and Frankie S for showing ‘Perseverance’ and being nominated for our ‘Class Value Award.

Red Ditty Books in Reception

Our Reception children have been working hard this term; learning to read their first Red Ditty books and write about the stories they have read.

They’ve been learning to teach and support each other with the help of their ‘stick of power’. We are really impressed with their enthusiasm and confidence that they show in the RWI sessions!

Well done for all your hard work Reception 🙂

Week 2 – Term 3

We have been really proud of the writing that Otters and Badgers have done this week. After learning our T-Rex text last week we adapted it to the Diplodocus this week. In order to find out more about the Diplodocus we needed to do some research. The children trawled through dinosaur books and found many interesting facts. Together we added them into or original text and re-learnt it using our T4W actions.

The children then wrote their own facts about the Diplodocus, look at our twitter account for some of our excellent writers.

In Topic we had an exciting delivery! We had an enormous egg. It was the size of a small baby. Some of the Otters thought Miss Common had shrunk and got stuck inside it! We pretended to be palaeontologists and investigate what kind of dinosaur would lay an egg like that!

We even tried to make our own model dinosaurs using lots of different materials and resources.

Next week we are going to be creating our very own dinosaurs… so watch out!

ClassDojo is proving a real success among the children!

Times Tables Rock Stars are noticeably helping the children with their times tables in school, but a further push would undoubtedly help even more! If we could all make a concerted effort with this, it would be much appreciated.

We began Reading Plus this week. Reading Plus is an interactive programme which enables children to strengthen reading skills by answering comprehension questions to a selected text of their choosing. This will prove a welcome supplement to the reading already being done and is proving effective from the start. Children can login at home via the link below.

Once at the site, you will need to type the site code:

Then the username: their name (lower case) followed by 1st initial of surname.

Helping your child to blend sounds

Thanks so much to the parents who attended our blending session today, got involved and even practised their sounds!

Here is a video from Ruth Miskin all about blending.

We are holding a ‘speedy reading’ RWI session for those children who have begun their Red Ditty books in Reception on Friday at 9am

If you have any questions please email Miss Common – scommon@st-nicholas-newromney.kent.sch.uk
