Dolly has been working hard to improve her writing this week

Value Award: Friendship

Brylie was awarded her certificate for always looking out for her friends.

 

St. Barnabas Award:

Alfie has been encouraging others to improve their football skills by adopting a coaching role.

Henley is the ‘Reader of the Week’ for really upping his game with his reading. Henley likes to challenge himself with his reading too!

 

Well done everyone!

Year 6 have had a fantastic week celebrating all things books.

We enjoyed swapping books that we have enjoyed so that others can experience them too.

The children enjoyed the visit from Jo Clarke.  We learned lots of useful tips regarding how to write a great story.

Our local librarian visited to tell us how to make the most of the library – I’m sure lots of the children will be visiting soon.

Lots of Elm class enjoyed dressing up on ‘World Book Day’.

We also enjoyed coming back to school during the evening for a story, biscuits and hot chocolate.  It was lovely to see the older children sharing books with the younger ones.

 

Year 6 enjoyed the poetry workshop with Paul Jenkins.  We even created a collaborative poem with him.

Finally, we were very impressed with the cakes inspired by books.

We can’t wait to spend the book tokens.

We had a brilliant PE lesson this week.  10 year 6 children planned and led 5 activities to develop the football skills of others.  The adults observed fantastic teamwork and positive attitudes from all involved.

Star of the Week was awarded to Joshua for putting so much effort into the Tiempo dance workshop.

Leo was awarded the certificate for being a great friend to all.

Elise was awarded the encourager certificate she always encourages others around her to adopt the same great learning behaviour that she has.

Carmela was awarded this certificate for always working hard to improve her reading.

 

Year 6 were awarded Nicholas Bear for their teamwork during PE this week.

 

Well done everyone!

The children had great fun with Tiempo dance. I have never seen them all move so much! The children loved all the different dances and, even though some were quite tricky, they all joined in brilliantly.

 

Hello!  We hope you’ve all had a fantastic half term break.

Here is an overview of the term ahead and the KIRFs to practise at home.  We have also attached some useful websites to support learning at home.

Year 6 celebrated the end of our history topic by having a WW2 themed day.  It was a very busy day!

Baking

We revisited the topic of rationing by baking ‘Carrot Cookies’.  Even though we used very basic and minimal ingredients, the cookies still tasted good.  We discussed how other ingredients could be used instead of carrot e.g. raisins.

 

Make Do and Mend

The children were able to put their sewing skills to good use by trying to mend or create something new from unwanted items.  Some children even tried to mend holes in their school uniform.

Land Girls

The children planted Broad Beans to represent one of the roles of women during the war.  We look forward to nurturing and eventually harvesting these!

Morse Code

Year 6 put their code cracking skills to the test!

Art

We were inspired by Henry Moore’s WW2 paintings and were able to develop our techniques when drawing in perspective.

 

Performing to EYFS

We were delighted to perform our Charleston and Lambeth Walk dances to Early Years.  We also performed the song ‘ White Cliffs of Dover’ with Elm class singing the main song and Oak class providing the harmonies.

 

A fun day was had by all!

Our perseverance award went to Leila for trying really hard in her maths learning this week.

Jake was awarded the Barnabas certificate for encouraging others with their sport.

Archie was awarded this certificate for his continued efforts with his reading.

 

Joshua won the reading raffle for this term.

 

Well done everyone!

Today, we had the wonderful Ian from KIC working with our Year 6s; they were immersed into World War 2 and were taken back to this time. All the children were brilliant and embraced the activities that they were asked to do.

The session had a number of parts: Summer 1939, War has broken, Going to War and Saying Goodbye, The Homefront and Evacuated. The children were then able to write with feeling and emotion when we got back to the classroom.
